I recently completed The Legend Of Zelda on the Nes for the first time ever, even though I have been playing this game for as far back as I can remember. One of my first memories of TLOZ is playing it in my uncle’s house and not having a clue what to do or where to go. I got a copy for myself at some stage after that and I really enjoyed the game but could never really progress very far. I was very young at the time and this was before the time of Internet so there were guides that I could look up. Sure there’s the option of a guide book but I never managed to pick one up. Eventually I moved on to other games, coming back to TLOZ from time to time but never actually completing a Zelda game until Ocarina Of Time on the Nintendo 64.
Fast forward 25 years and the Nes Classic Edition is released with 30 amazing games, one of which just so happens to be The Legend Of Zelda. I had a few games that I was determined to complete over the next few months and TLOZ was one of my primary objectives. After a few stop starts attempting to play it through, I decided to knuckle down and finally finish it.
When I started out on my full play-through, I wanted to try and get through as much of the game as I could, without the use of any guides a walkthrough Unfortunately this didn’t last too long however as after the 3rd dungeon I was lost and couldn’t figure out where to go next. I decided to seek the help of veteran players who have played through the game multiple times, left no stone unturned and discovered every little secret that this glorious game holds.
As I made my way through the rest, I enjoyed it more with every step I took. Sometimes I’d use the help of a guide and others I would just roam around from screen to screen, trying to blow up every rock and burn every bush in the hopes of finding another hidden cave or dungeon.
When I finally finished the game, the sense of accomplishment was unparalleled. After almost 25 years of playing The Legend Of Zelda I had finally destroyed Ganon, saved Princess Zelda and restored peace to Hyrule. My journey through TLOZ has spanned decades and I now that it has finally come to an end, I can safely say it is one of the best video games I have every played.
It’s no secret that I am a huge Zelda fan, after all The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is my favorite ever video game. I am on a mission to complete as many TLOZ games as I possibly can and I have just started Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. It supposed to be one of the more difficult games in the series and I look forward to the challenge.
Thanks very much for reading, my next blog is in another castle.
